Coalition forces led by the United States captured a senior ISIS leader during a raid in Syria, the military announced late Wednesday, June 15.
“The detained individual was assessed to be an experienced bomb maker and facilitator who became one of the group’s top leaders in Syria,” Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve said in a statement.
No civilians were harmed during the operation and there was no damage to coalition aircraft or assets, according to the statement.
The coalition did not reveal further details about the raid, which appears to have been carried out in the early hours of Thursday local time, nor did it name the ISIS leader who was detained.
In February, another ISIS leader blew himself up as a US special operations raid closed in on his home in Syria. No US troops were hurt during that raid.
